Melancholy
[mel-uh n-kol-ee]

Inspired by Robert Burton’s ‘The Anatomy of Melancholy’, a book that covers medical, religious, philosophical, literary, ethical and literal interpretations of what melancholy is about.

The Greeks and Romans in the 16th century had the idea that the human body is made up of four liquids of humors. Blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. Black bile is also known as melancholy.

These humors not only help maintain the human system physically but also spiritually. When there is a balance of the four humors, a human is healthy. But when there is an imbalance due to an excessive amount of black bile, a human would be diagnosed with melancholy.

Inspired by Robert Burton's 'The Anatomy of Melancholy' and with more research, I have Illustrated and written this book to try to convey the feeling of melancholy to audiences.
